Broken Hand Could Cost “Rampage” Title Shot Against Jon Jones

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson earned the first shot at UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones with his win over Matt Hamill at UFC 130 on Saturday, but a broken hand could cost him an immediate shot at the belt.

Dana White said at the event’s post-fight press conference that Jackson is next in line if he’s healthy to fight Jones in the fall, otherwise the first shot at Jones could go to rival Rashad Evans or Lyoto Machida.

“If Rampage can’t go, we’d either have to do Machida, because Machida’s ready to go, or have Jones wait for Rashad,” White said. “Rashad is 100-percent confident he’s going to win his fight (against Phil Davis at UFC 133 on Aug. 6) and wants to turn right around and fight Jones. We’ll see what happens.”

Now the future of the 205-pound division hinges on Jackson’s hand, which will be evaluated this week after being injured in December while “horsing around” and re-aggravated during his UFC 130 training camp
