The long awaited title fight of Vitor Belfort against middleweight champ Anderson Silva will come sooner than it is expected.
Even though there were news that an injury forced Belfort not be on the November’s UFC 122 to fight against fellow contender Yushin Okami, UFC President Dana White already confirmed that Belfort is healthy and will definitely go for Silva and the title early next year. Their fight will possibly be in the main event of UFC 125 which will be on January 1 in Las Vegas.
“Vitor is not injured. He is going to fight Anderson Silva for the title and the winner of UFC 122′s Nate Marquardt and Yushin Okami are next,” White posted on his Twitter account.
Belfort was pulled out from the main event of the UFC 122 against Okami and was replaced by Marquardt earlier today so that he could fight Silva after the planned rematch of Silva and Sonnen but unfortunately the supposed rematch was derailed due to Sonnen’s failed drug test following their first meeting at UFC 117.
