Recent middleweight challenger has been slapped a one year suspension and fined $2,500 by the California State Athletic Commission after he was tested positive using a banned substance following his submission loss to current UFC middleweight king Anderson “Spider” Silva last August at the main event of .

Sonnen reportedly admitted taking the banned substance but did not elaborate more on the reason why he is taking it.

“He only indicated that he was taking it but he never indicated why, Sonnen just let me know he was taking [something] and that’s when I called over an inspector to get it documented. But when you do take it you still have to show a medical reason.” CSAC executive director George Dodd said via S.I.com

With Sonnen out of the picture, the title shot will go to the winner against Yushin Okami in the main event this November 13.
