Number one lightweight contender Gray “The Bully” Maynard is more than ready to snatch the UFC lightweight title from Frankie “Answer” Edgar, UFC President has reconfirmed that “The Bully” will get a crack at the title after winning a unanimous decision against fellow lightweight last night at in Boston. “You can’t let the crowd affect you. I’ve got bills. I’ve got all that stuff… All the odds were stacked against me. All the odds. That’s a blue-collar win for me, and I’m blue-collar,I’ve beaten all the top guys. I’m ready” Maynard said via MMAmania

Maynard is the only man who defeated the current champ. Can he defeat Edgar again?

Thought he couldn’t? Maynard bullies his opponents and he’ll win by bullying Edgar once again. If only Penn would have bullied Edgar in either fight, he could have fared much better, instead he just stood there, mirroring Edgars directions. He could have pushed and bullied Edgar, but he was not aggressive. He made a statement that sooner or later Edgar has to come to him and that’s when he’ll make his move. The only thing Penn did was move in reverse. He was not offensive and Edgar had no concern about Penn’s advances (since they were far too few), so Edgar could concentrate on his offensive game plan. The more he stood there with Penn, the more confidence he got. Why Penn didn’t attack Edgar, it’s beyond reason. This is one of the poorest showings I’ve seen coming from Penn.

Edgar won the first round by taking Penn down twice. Penn should have learned from that and taken Edgar down in the second, so he, too, could win a round. Instead, he did nothing. He doesn’t deserve the belt. Not until he chooses to attack Edgar. I would not give Penn another opportunity to fight for the belt, until he fights and beats Frankie Edgar one time. Not until then. Oh yeah, that would mean Edgar loses the belt, because the only way Penn can fight and beat Edgar before fighting for the belt is if Edgar loses his belt. Of course, Maynard is going to take it from Edgar and Penn needs to watch how he does it. He bullies his opponents.

Maynard is a boring cheap fighter
Lay and pray to the max
Him, gsp, and fitch should never fight again
These so called “grinders” are cheap and a waste of time to watch
And o don’t want to hear people defend them by saying Thts how wrestling works
Because Cain is a wrestler, Brock, Carwin, and Chael are all wrestlers and they are way more exciting and better fighters
I hate seeing these guys dance around til there is one minute left in the round and squeek out a victory cuz they got a takedown and ended up on top
They do minimal damage once they complete a takedown
    Show no submission attempts
Claim they r going to knock ppl out even tho they know they are going to lay and pray

GSP and Fitch do wrestle their opponents to the mat, but the ones who give wrestling a bad name are the ones who push their opponents up to the cage, and stand there, in their feeble excused attempt at taking down their opponent, doing absolutely nothing, but resting. Nick Lentz, Rashad Evans, etc. Many of them make the matches suck. That part I couldn’t agree with you more. They suck, but Maynard? Even Fitch. Maynard fights and he will not spend all round long, holding his opponent up against the cage, resting like those others do. He beats on them, once he gets them down, also. Not just lay on top of them. I’ve never seen Maynard lay and pray on any opponent. I hate fighters who do that. To me, they do not belong in the UFC. One of these organizations need to enforce some kind of rule regarding that crap. The referees are ultimately responsible for keeping a match moving along and many of them just stand there, knowing full well the round is not moving along. I’ve seen too many fights where the whole round, the “wrestler” gets his opponent on the mat, and does nothing worth mentioning.
The refs have the power to make these “wrestlers” either figtht or stand back up. I’d make them either fight or stand up and I would NOT wait 3-4 minutes to make this decision. I’ve gotten so sick of sitting through such fights that I even checked into what it takes to referee these kind of fights. There is no bully alive who doesn’t push the other guy around. Bullies such as Maynard will not just lay around. He works his stand up, then if and when opportunity comes, he will take down his opponent, but he stays busy. I do not know why you think Maynard falls into that category, because I’ve never, ever seen him do that. Never. That’s why he’s nicknamed the Bully. He’s not going to win by doing nothing, like those other fighters do. THanks for the comment, though. Like I said, I agree with your hatred of boring fighters, who actually win by laying on top of their opponents, and push the opponents against the cage and stay there for 2-3 minutes in a round. That is boring and should not be allowed. Rashad is notorious for doing that. Many cornermen know that is how to get a victory, and have their fighters do that crap. To me, that isn’t a win. IT certainly should not be considered one, anyway.

The ones I really hate, spend the whole fight against the cage, on their knees with their hands wrapped around the opponent’s legs, trying to take them down, so the fighter can Lay-N-Pray for the whole three rounds. The ref stand them up and they run right back to the opponent, trying to take them down again, only to do the same dam* thing. Viscious circle.

Edgar did that to Penn. The last 30 seconds of the round, he shoots in on Penn. Wanting to win the round.
