Despite ’s camp wanting on an immediate rematch with , Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said a non-title bout with heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem could be Fedor’s next fight. Other potential opponents include Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and Sergei Kharitonov.

Werdum defeated Emelianenko in just 69 seconds on June 26 to snap Fedor’s 10 year, 28 fight win streak. Both fighters hoped for an immediate rematch, but Werdum will be sidelined for the rest of the year while he recovers from a likely elbow surgery.
