Two of the best Light heavyweight contenders will finally square off in the Octagon to settle their differences in the much awaited match-up on May 29th in the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas. The two former UFC Light heavyweight champions were bashing each other since “The Ultimate Fighter” Heavyweight series. The two were scheduled to fight last December 2009 on UFC 107, but Rampage decided to withdraw from the fight to shoot his first major movie “B.A Baracus” and is scheduled for worldwide release on June 11.
The winner of this fight will guarantee a title crack against the new UFC Light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Rua fresh from a shocking first round knockout on fellow Brazilian Lyoto “Dragon” Machida to capture his first UFC title. Back in UFC 114, the fight between Jackson and Evans is actually a grudge match. “I want to knock this guy out,” Rampage said. “He disrespected me for so long and I have never been motivated to train my ass off just to knock him out.” He added. Jackson slowly made a name in PRIDE FC with his signature move, the vicious body slams.
The former Michigan State wrestler and the winner of “The Ultimate Fighter” Season two Sugar Rashad Evans was known in the world of mixed martial arts when he shocked the world by knocking out former long time UFC Light heavyweight champion Chuck “Iceman” Lidell. He also had notable wins on former Light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin at UFC 92. His last fight was against Brazilian Thiago Silva earning a victory on points. “I can’t wait until I finally shut him up,” Evans said in the interview.
For Evans to win, he needs to utilize his movement in the Octagon. Evans has all the ingredients of power and speed. He can hit Rampage and if he avoids getting countered, he can win it via unanimous decision. Evans needs to focus and sticks to his plan by darting in and out of Jackson’s range to avoid any counters. For Jackson to win he has to utilize his counter punching and wait for Evans to make a mistake .If Jackson connects ,it will be lights out for Evans.
UFC 114: Rampage vs. Evans will be live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, May 29, 2010.
