Mauricio “Shogun” Rua Wants To Fight Randy Couture Next

After his first-round knockout of at , UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua says he wants to face in his first title defense.

“I would be very happy to fight Randy Couture because he’s a legend, an icon in the sport, and someone I admire. I would be very happy to fight him,” Rua said.

Many expected “Shogun” to face the winner of a fight between and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in his first title defense, but has said a title shot is not guaranteed for the winner.

Couture has won back-to-back fights over Brandon Vera and . Couture’s next opponent will be former boxing champ at in August.

    Rua certainly isn’t ducking anyone, if he is wanting Couture. If I were in Dana’s shoes, I’d be one rich MoFo…
    What I am trying to say is if I were in Dana’s shoes, I would at least listen to the champ. If he wants Couture, then why not? Sure he is scheduled to fight Toney, but that isn’t until the Fall. If he is in shape or has 2 months to get in shape, then let’s see this Rua/Couture fight.

    Heck, Evans looked good enough to fight for the title, but let’s have him sit and stew a minute. Let’s hope White puts the Rua/Couture fight together first. Then, if Evans wins the rematch with either Machida or Jackson, ok…Pencil him in to fight Rua sometime this decade. There’s still plenty of years left in the decade.
