BJ Penn vs. Frankie Edgar Rematch Likely, Possible For UFC 117

announced today that the UFC is working on a rematch against between Penn and immediately.  Edgar beat Penn this past Saturday at in Abu Dhabi.  Edgar shocked the world since he was a 7-1 underdog in the fight.  The fight ended in a unanimous decision for Edgar, but the decision drew some criticism from UFC fans.

Although I didn’t think Edgar did enough to deserve the title, I would have given him the fight if the title wasn’t on the line.  BJ Penn really didn’t do anything in the match and just seemed slow.  Penn may have been held back by a knee brace that he was wearing.  In any event, Penn just wasn’t himself and Penn should be given a rematch.

Edgar moved to 12-1 after the fight while BJ Penn’s record is 15-6-1. The rematch is tentatively scheduled to occur at UFC 177, which will be UFC’s debut in Boston.
